Michael Beasley returned to practice with the Miami Heat on Thursday, one day after the No. 2 overall pick in last week′s NBA draft was knocked out of his first official summer-league workout with a chest bruise.
Beasley was inadvertently elbowed by a teammate during a defensive drill about 45 minutes after Miami opened its summer-league camp Wednesday morning.

With the SuperSonics on their way out, Seattle needs to act fast if it wants a new NBA team soon.
Commissioner David Stern sent the city a warning Wednesday, saying officials have less than 18 months to come up with a funding plan for a KeyArena renovation if there′s hope of an NBA return within five years.
A settlement reached Wednesday between the SuperSonics and the city terminates the current lease and allows owner Clay Bennett to move the team to Oklahoma City for the 2008-09 season.

The settlement was reached Wednesday just hours before U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman was to announce her verdict in the trial between the city and the team.
The settlement was announced by Pechman on the federal court Web site.

Chris Paul and the Hornets have reached a contract agreement that could keep the All-Star point guard with the team for at least the next four seasons.
Lance Young, Paul′s agent, said Paul agreed Thursday to a three-year extension with a player′s option for a fourth year. The total value of the deal is $68 million.
Paul has one season remaining on his current contract.

The Los Angeles Clippers want to keep Elton Brand and Corey Maggette, each of whom has opted out of the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent.
As soon as the pair made their intentions known, team president Andy Roeser said the Clippers will be aggressive in trying to convince them to stay. He also said the team will be contacting other free agents.

The NBA hired Army Maj. Gen. Ronald L. Johnson on Tuesday as senior vice president of referee operations, a newly created position to help strengthen the league′s officiating programs following the Tim Donaghy scandal.
